Police have today morning started an operation to crack down errant boda boda riders in Mbarara City,
The riders who did not have reflector jackets and helmets had to surrender their motorcycles to police officers.
The police action follows a CCTV footage released last week highlighting graphic details of accidents involving boda boda cyclists.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson told our reporter on phone that a lot of people have lost their lives due to accidents involving boda boda riders compelling the Rwizi region Traffic Officer to order for the operation.
Today morning morning our reporters on ground noticed less presence of bodas especially those who were going and from Katete as most riders were seen dropping passengers before reaching Katete bridge for fear of being arrested.
Boda bodas have been deemed the biggest cause of accidents in the country.
