Two coordinators of the National Unity Platform-NUP party have been arrested in Mbarara City for carrying out an illegal procession. They were leading NUP supporters who were celebrating the nomination of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
Those arrested include Bright Muhumuza and Pius Twesigye all coordinators National Unity Platform for Mbarara city. Muhumuza is also the NUP party flag bearer for Mbarara city south Member of Parliament.
Earlier on, the Police deployed heavily along Markhanisingh Street where NUP offices are located after they had been tipped that NUP supporters were planning to have a procession.
Muhumuza and Twesigye were arrested by the police and detained at Mbarara Central Police Station.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi regional police spokesperson, says the two were arrested as a preventive measure not to cause chaos in town.

Muhumuza accused the police of exhibiting double standards. He questioned why the National Resistance Movement- NRM supporters were not arrested while celebrating President Museveni’s nomination.
