Air India Flight 171 crashes on takeoff from Ahmedabad, 242 on board

A passenger plane has crashed at an airport in India’s western city of Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff.

The airline said in a statement that there were 242 passengers and crew members on board. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals.

According to reports, Air India flight AI171 was scheduled to depart from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, bound for London Gatwick.
