Mbarara district council has rejected the names of members of the sub-county land committee.
Each sub-county is required to nominate five names and two-thirds of the names should be female, they are verified by the District Executive Committee and later presented to the council for approval.
According to the local government Act 2008 Amended, the district council is given powers to approve five names of people proposed by the Sub-county councils to work hand in hand with the district land commission.
However, all names from the eight Sub counties that form Mbarara district were rejected and differed back to the sub-county councils.
Loy Mpumwire District Councilor representing Kagongi Sub County rejected the names from her sub-county saying that the nominated members do not understand land matters.

For Bukiro and Bubaare sub-counties, their district councillors said that the names brought to the council for approval had not been taken through the sub-county councils for verification and so were not fit for approval by the district council.

The Mbarara LCV Chairperson John Bosco Tumusiime Bamuturaki said the council was behind schedule to have the names approved and the committees in place.

According to the police annual crime report, a total of 319 cases of land fraud were reported in 2020 and 4 Billion Shillings lost in fraudulent land transactions.
