Paul Kagame has been declared the winner of the Rwanda presidential election, securing a fourth term after receiving 99.15% of the votes, according to electoral authorities.

Kagame, who has consistently won more than 93% of the vote in each of his previous elections, faced opposition from eight candidates initially.

However, only two were approved to run alongside him after validation by the electoral commission. Others, including Kagame’s outspoken critics, were disqualified due to reasons such as prior criminal convictions.

At polling stations like the Rwandexco centre in Kigali, voters began lining up 90 minutes before polls opened. Barimukije Pheneas, a voter at Rwandexco, expressed satisfaction with the process and his choice to re-elect Kagame.

Pheneas highlighted Kagame’s leadership in rebuilding Rwanda post-1994 genocide, emphasizing development and effective social services.

“We voted smoothly without any crowding, and we are happy,” Pheneas said. “I voted for Paul Kagame because he has achieved a lot for us; he united us.”
