Rubaga Hospital has officially confirmed that Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya has died at the age of 36.
The hospital stated that Ssegirinya passed away at 12:10 PM after a prolonged illness that saw his health deteriorate significantly over the past few months.
The hospital’s acting executive director, Sr Grace Nanyondo, said earlier in the day that Ssegirinya was critically sick and called for prayers. Confusion had emerged after unverified reports of his death spread in the morning.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among clarified during a parliamentary session that Ssegirinya’s organs had collapsed, but his heart was still functioning, making it unethical for doctors to declare him dead at the time.
National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi known as Bobi Wine also said that Hon. Ssegirinya Muhammad was brain dead, where most of his organs had shut down, but was not yet declared dead.
But Hours later, Rubaga Hospital has now confirmed that Ssegirinya had succumbed to his illness.
