NUP Submits Signatures Endorsing Bobi Wine for 2026 Election

by News Editor

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has submitted the signatures required to nominate its leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely known as Bobi Wine, as a candidate in Uganda’s 2026 presidential election.

Confirming the development, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya said the party had gathered more endorsements than required by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The EC requires each presidential aspirant to secure endorsements from voters in at least two-thirds of Uganda’s districts before being cleared for nomination.

Bobi Wine’s successful submission moves NUP a step closer to the official nomination stage.

According to the EC, presidential nominations will be held on September 23–24, 2025, while parliamentary nominations will follow on October 15–16, 2025.

The general election is scheduled for early 2026.
