Kenya: Ruto Declares Kenya Visa-free

Kenyan President William Ruto has declared that Kenya will be visa free for all foreign visitors starting January 2024, making the end of visa requirements for foreigners.

Ruto said that his government had abolished visa requirements on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, during his national address at the 60th Jamhuri Day National Celebrations held at Uhuru Gardens in the capital Nairobi.

Ruto had earlier hinted about abolishing visas for African countries, but he has opened the country’s door wider to accommodate even non-African visitors. This will take effect in January 2024.

Ruto said Kenya is the home of humanity – a scientific fact that fills Kenyans with pride and underscores Kenya’s rich heritage. He says it is because of this kind of humanity that he has opened Kenya for all.

However, all those that intend to travel to Kenya will have to be verified through a digital platform that the country’s ICT team has developed and issued with electronic travel authorization.The development is evident of Kenya’s hospitality and open-door-policy and will enable her embrace technological advancements.
