Parliament Concludes Swearing in MPs of Eleventh Parliament.

Parliament has concluded the administration of oath for Members of Parliament. 
The Eleventh parliament will have the highest number of legislators who have increased from 426 MPs in the Tenth Parliament to 529.
During the four day exercise, each MP took the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Member of Parliament.

The Constitution provides that Members of Parliament elect to take and subscribe to the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Members of Parliament.

It further provides that except for purposes of taking the oaths, no person shall sit or vote in Parliament before taking and subscribing to the oaths.
The Oaths Act mandates the Clerk to Parliament to administer oaths before MPs elect a Speaker.

Those who were sworn in yesterday include: Tumwiine Anna Mary Ntoroko woman MP, Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya and Francis Zaake Mityana Municipality among many others.

Each of them took the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Member of Parliament, a constitutional requirement before they officially start their five-year term of office.

CUE. AOTH 4 ENG. Upon taking the oaths, the MPs were handed instruments of power, including the Uganda Constitution and the Parliament Rules of Procedure.
The Ntoroko Woman MP, Tumwiine Annah said that the eleventh parliament should ensure the promotion of democracy and more financial support for agriculture initiatives.
