Bobi Wine slams UN chief over silence on human rights abuses in Uganda

by News Editor

The leader of the National Unity Platform NUP, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has expressed disappointment in United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Kyagulanyi criticized Guterres for his failure to address the dire human rights situation in Uganda during the Non-Aligned Movement NAM conference.

In a statement, Kyagulanyi accused Guterres of remaining silent on the millions of oppressed Ugandans and other Africans under President Museveni’s regime, whom he described as a brutal dictator.

He highlighted several pressing issues that he believed should have been the focus of the Secretary General’s attention. These issues included gross human rights violations, election rigging, military trials of political opponents, the humanitarian crisis and plunder in the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC, and the recent closure of the UN Human Rights Office by President Museveni.

Kyagulanyi expressed his disappointment that Guterres’ presence in Uganda did not result in any substantial action or condemnation of the ongoing human rights abuses.
