The National Unity Platform (NUP) party leaders in Luwero District have started implementation of this campaign  in the district with hopes of improving and maintaining its support.

According to, NUP registrars in Luwero this exercise is going to be done at different local levels that is district, Constituency, Sub County, Parish and Village levels.

“New members will be registered at our office premises and we are also planning to dispatch a team to register door-to-door to  include those that cannot make it to office to ensure that  this exercise leaves none behind,” said Mr Steven Ssenteza, NUP registrar.

The launch on Saturday, May 19 at St Paul Hotel was attended by area MPs Denis Sekabira (Katikamu North), Hassan Kirumira Lukalidde (Katikamu South), and Woman MP Brenda Nabukenya.

“We want each and every Ugandan in Katikamu South to be a member of the National Unity Platform,” Kirumira said.

“We need to be organised and have a family of force, a coordinated force to encounter NRM flag bearers in the district.”

Sekabira urged registrars at all levels to have a keen eye that can quickly identify double crossers with intentions of sabotaging the exercise.

“I do not think that anyone who doesn’t support NUP will come and register with us, regardless, all of us are suffering economically, socially, politically so it is with your conscience and integrity to choose to be used against the  people that are fighting for you,” he said

Sekabira said he expects many people to turn up for this registration exercise such that they can be identified as a team.

“If you feel your rights are suppressed you have no duty other than joining that group that is fighting for those rights because it is a matter of identity,” Sekabira added.

On many occasions, security agencies and other government functionaries has interrupted NUP activities. However, Ms Nabukenya said they are not intimidated and they are willing to risk everything to ensure that this activity is a success.

“We will be surprised if police comes in to interfere and also disturb this peace because the law provides for it and therefore we don’t expect any interruptions from police and if they do so we are ready,” she said.

In the 2021 general elections, NUP swept Luwero’s political landscape, laying it red with four Members of Parliament, the district chairperson and sizable number of Local Council three leaders.

“We want to maintain that and also get more elective positions in this district, so we are going to be united, mobilise our people and also make sure that we retain what we have now and also add on something,” Nabukenya said.

The NUP registration exercise was launched on April 30. It is planned to run until the end of the month.
